What this paper is about
Nau mai, haere mai!
This paper explores teaching and learning in a variety of contexts, lifelong and life-wide. However, the main focus is adult learning.
Learning and teaching are universal human activities that take place in a variety of settings. This paper aims to meet the needs of a broad range of participants with interest in learning and teaching principles and practices in both formal and informal settings.
In class and online, we will explore how learning theories inform our thinking and practice as educators in a variety of settings, including workplaces, and engage in challenging ourselves as learners to realise our own personal learning goals. You will be invited to research, contextualise and incorporate your own learning experiences and develop philosophies of education to last a lifetime.
How this paper will be taught
This paper will consist of a weekly lecture, and online weekly discussion forums.
This is a 15 point paper. University regulations stipulate an expected total student workload for the paper of 150 hours. This workload includes attendance at the weekly two-hour lecture, and participation in the online discussion forums (approx. 35 hours). The remaining hours, accumulated at different times across the whole semester, are to be used for completing readings, preparing for online tasks, and completing assignments.
A regular online presence is required from Monday, 10 July 2022 until the paper ends on Friday, 13 October 2022.
Details of the online learning activities for each week will be provided in the Moodle classroom. Materials will be made available on the Friday prior to each new topic starting in the following week. Activities will include participation in online discussion, and links to relevant resources such as video. Full details of the assessment requirements, readings, due dates and weightings for these tasks are provided in this paper outline and on the paper's moodle page.
